He is from a state that leans to the left, it has voted for the Democrat presidential candidate in every single election since 1996. Margins are 16% 2020, 10% 2016, 12% 2012, 16% 2008, 4% 2004, 0.44% 2000 and 8% 1996. Senator Wyden has also served alongside a Republican, former Senator Gordon Smith until 2009.
